Description

The Staff Accountant supports the organization’s financial objectives by providing financial analyses and recommendations. Supports financial decision-making information by collecting, analyzing, investigating, and reporting financial data. Protects assets by planning and completing financial audits; identifying inadequate, inefficient, or ineffective internal controls; recommending improvements.

 

Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • Develops accounting organizational strategies by contributing accounting and financial information, analysis, and recommendations to strategic thinking and direction.
  • Establishes functional accounting objectives in line with organizational objectives.
  • Establishes accounting operational strategies by evaluating trends; establishing critical measurements; determining production, productivity, quality, and customer-service strategies; designing systems; accumulating resources; resolving problems; implementing change.
  • Provides financial projections by coordinating budget/forecast preparation; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial information; advising departments on the collection and analysis of data.
  • Ongoing reconciliation and review of cash balances and forecasts to ensure appropriate management of cash flow.
  • Reporting to management on variances from the established budget, and the reasons for those variances.
  • Engaging in ongoing cost reduction analyses in all areas of the company.
  • Creating additional analyses and reports as requested by leadership.
  • Maintaining of vendor relationships and managing accounts payable.
  • Maintaining client and partner relationships and managing accounts receivables.
  • Preparing P&Ls and distributing to leadership team.
  • Updates job knowledge by keeping current with financial regulations and accepted practices; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Initiative in identifying and resolving problems timely and effectively

 

Education and Experience Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline
  • 5+ plus years of experience in an accounting role within a company with annual sales in excess of $10M
  • Resource to Executive Management Team that provides overall company leadership and direction
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Previous Accounting experience within a hospitality or restaurant environment a plus
  • Exceptional computer literacy with expert-level Excel and Microsoft Office Suite software
  • Previous experience with QuickBooks accounting is required
  • Exceptional knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost accounting and cost control principles, to include Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Strong ability to analyze financial data and prepare ad-hoc financial reports, statements and projections as needed
